GORE VALLEY TRAIL
Connecting Lionshead Village to the Vail Public Library, this highly trafficked section of the Gore Valley Trail required thoughtful realignment to enhance safety, accessibility, and environmental resilience. Terry Stone led the redesign of this quarter-mile segment, working closely with the Town of Vail to protect the sensitive natural setting along Gore Creek.
The project’s design minimized impact to the wetlands, preserving mature trees, and reducing erosion—all while elevating the trail user’s experience. Trail alignment and width options were carefully studied to ensure the lowest environmental impact—while updated lighting, new seating areas, and a direct library connection improved usability and comfort. The design also introduced creek overlooks and stair access, inviting users to engage more closely with the landscape.
Bank stabilization and revegetation efforts reinforced the health of Gore Creek’s corridor, and two new vehicular-rated bridges were integrated to complete the alignment. The redesign of the trail has enhanced the ecological integrity and community connectivity in the heart of the Town of Vail.
